Understanding electricity costs at home
Calculating electricity costs matters more than ever – rising energy prices, dynamic tariffs, and more devices at home make overview difficult. An electricity calculator helps you derive monthly and yearly costs from consumption and unit price – and pinpoint power-hungry appliances. That supports budgeting, comparing suppliers, and conscious saving.
Every calculation starts with kilowatt-hours (kWh): energy used over time. Your tariff usually combines unit price (cents per kWh) and base fee (euros per year or month). With both values you can estimate annual costs – whether you are on a fixed rate, green power, or a dynamic contract.
Calculating household consumption
In household mode you enter annual or monthly consumption – from your bill or supplier portal. Add unit price and optionally the base fee. The calculator shows energy cost per year and month plus the base fee share. That reveals whether switching tariffs makes sense or consumption looks unusually high.
Estimating cost for a single device
In device mode you need power in watts, daily runtime, and days per year. Examples: gaming PC, fridge, tumble dryer, or EV charger. Formula: watts × hours × days ÷ 1000 = kWh per year. Multiply by unit price for approximate device cost – ideal before buying or when hunting savings.
Note: grid fees, taxes, and price guarantees vary by supplier. The calculator gives solid estimates for planning and comparison, not a binding bill. For exact amounts always use your supplier’s official documents.
