What is a discount calculator?
A discount calculator computes the reduced price and savings from a starting price and discount rate.
How do you calculate a discount?
Discount amount = original price × discount / 100. Final price = original price − discount amount.
How do you calculate the original price?
Original price = final price / (1 − discount / 100). Reverse calculation is not possible at 100% discount.
How do you calculate the discount rate?
Discount = (original price − final price) / original price × 100.
How do multiple discounts work?
Each discount is applied to the already reduced price. 20% then 10% on €100 gives €72 – 28% total discount.
Why can multiple discounts not simply be added?
The percentage base becomes smaller after each discount.
What is the difference between discount amount and discount rate?
Discount amount is savings in money. Discount rate is savings in percent.
How are vouchers handled?
Percentage discounts are applied first, then a fixed voucher amount is subtracted.
Why can small rounding differences occur?
Money amounts are rounded to currency decimals. This can show with multiple stages.
